Hercules Club is a small uncommon thorny tree that grows... well just look at the range map. Hope they have these where you live. They aren't common anywhere so whenever you stumble across one you will want to mark its location.
What is it used for? Well it isn't like most of the other edible plants listed here. You aren't going to fill your stomach with anything off of this tree. This is a pepper substitute.
Survival is FIRST about
wantingto survive. Lose the
wantand your chances go way way down. Preserving the
wantto survive when you come from the lap of luxury is no small matter in a doomsday situation. So anytime you can bring back a little joy or normalcy into these SHTF situations it is something worth pursuing.
Eating is a joy and not just a need today. Pepper makes food taste better and that is what this plant supplies. The seeds of this plant are what you will want to gather. The tree blooms in the spring and produces a bunch of small white flowers which all grow together in a huge cluster near the top of the tree. Don't cut down the tree to get at them. You want this tree around forever.
Each flower will turn into a fruit that dries and when split reveals a shiny black seed. Take the seeds and boil them and then dry them out. Bam you have your pepper substitute.
