Gold is a well known and higly valued element that is bright, slightly reddish yellow, dense, soft, malleable and ductile metal. Gold occurs nuggets or grains of pure gold (24 karat gold) but it often occurs in a in a mix (solid solution) with the silver copper and palladium.
Gold resists attack by acids but dissolves in alkaline solutions of cyanide, which are used in mining and electroplating.
Gold has many uses which include coins and jewelry, of course but also is used in other purposes such as corrosion resistant electrical connectors due to high malleability, ductility and resistance to corrosion.
Gold has a melting temperature of 1063C (1945F).
