Cadmium is a relatively soft, bluish-white metal. The element Cadmium is extremely rare in the earths crust expressed as parts per million instead of percentages because it is so rare.
Cadmium is usually a byproduct of zinc production... there are no Cadmium mines. Cadmium compounds are used as red, orange and yellow pigments, to color glass, and to stabilize plastic. Cadmium use is generally decreasing because it is toxic, so its use is falling and is no longer being used in the production of batteries.
Cadmium has a melting temp of 321C (610F).
