Purple Coneflower Medicianal Uses

Purple Coneflower
Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is a flower native to Eastern North America. It can be found growing natively as far West as Colorado. It grows in well-drained soil in full sun, but can tolerate partial shade.

Purple Coneflower is easy to identify because of its showy purplish flowers. A close examination of the leaves will aid you in identifying the plant when it is not in bloom.

This daisy like flower has a long history of being used medicinally. Historically a tincture was used to fight off infections. With the advent of antibiotics its use has fallen off dramatically. However, for those in a SHTF survival situation, the Purple Coneflowers ability to stimulate the immune system could be an extremely valuable piece of knowledge.

Use the tincture to help fight off colds, flu, urinary tract infections, herpes, gum disease, and other infections.

To make a tincture gather the roots of the Purple Coneflower plant and dry them out. Place the roots in a container and add drinking alcohol to the container. Seal the container, so that it is air tight. It will take a couple of months for the solution to reach its strongest concentration. Shaking up the container will aid in speeding up the process. Store the container in a dark area.

The tincture solution can now be strained or poured off into containers for use when needed.

The use is as follows. place the tincture on your tongue or dilute slightly in water first. A teaspoon or less periodically is all that is required. Take every couple of hours initially and then slowly increase the time between applications.

Be warned that this tincture is not for everyone. If you are allergic to ragweed or daisies or if you have an autoimmune disease, then this remedy may not be for you!
